Self Time

Self Time

We spend most of our daily lives in different roles as mother or father, sister or brother, friend or neighbor, wife or husband, employee or colleague. Since every new day is full of different responsibilities, it is very easy to forget about self-time in the daily hustle and bustle.

Self-time is a great chance to get to know yourself and focus on what you really want. Because enjoying life and being successful starts with taking time to establish a good relationship with yourself.

Effect on your health

How it's effect your body and health?

Despite the anxiety of social stigma, spending time alone is actually something our bodies crave. Because we are not used to this feeling, anxiety can easily be confused with feelings such as fatigue and stress when we do not know that all we need to “feel better” is to spend time alone.

Self-time is not a matter of being an introvert or an extrovert. It helps us discover new interests and ideas without worrying about the opinions of others. So, the freedom to spend time alone is a great way to go, even for extremely social individuals.

Developing a sense of being alone and choosing to be alone makes it easier to get to know yourself and can improve your empathy. Time spent on your thoughts without social distractions can be restorative and boost your confidence. Besides all this, self-time can increase productivity and creativity.

How to make time for self-care?

🔍 Be open to discovering new interests. Even if you only spend 30 minutes a week reading a book in a cafe, make room in your life and take some time.

⏰ Wake up a little earlier. Although it may be difficult to give up on sleep, if you find that you are not getting enough “time”, it may be helpful to wake up a few minutes earlier to take time for yourself. For this, you can try to sleep earlier in the evening.

🗓️ Divide the time you have for yourself during the day. You don’t need to spend several uninterrupted hours per day on yourself. Go for a walk in the evening after dinner. Turn off the radio during your commute home so you can think.

🙏🏻 Ask for help. It’s not easy—but part of taking care of ourselves means recognizing when we can’t do it all. Hire a babysitter so you can go out for the evening. Hire a housekeeper so you can spend the weekends with your family. Do whatever you need to take better care of yourself.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Make time to exercise. Part of any self-care routine should be to get your body moving. Think about what you love and enjoy doing. Then, prioritize that type of exercise.

Why should you take time for yourself?

Relieves Anxiety
Anxiety grows rapidly because we do not distinguish between ourselves and our thoughts. If we become overwhelmed by all the thoughts we have and cannot slow them down, we begin to feel heavy and sluggish. Spending more time on yourself allows you to organize your mind and get rid of unnecessary negative thoughts, allowing you to ease your anxiety.

Allows You To Keep Your Mind Clear
Our mind has the capacity to store an enormous amount of information. However, you need to organize it. The mind has a partially self-working filing system, but you need to distance yourself from the constant stream of new information.

Makes you realize your weaknesses
People tend to avoid finding their weaknesses by succumbing to their egos. However, instead of ignoring them, you can learn to turn the situation in your favor by noticing them.

Allows you to stay more focused
We need to focus not only on tasks, but also on ourselves. It allows you to take some time to focus on yourself and your thoughts instead of constantly chasing things.

Lets you set your priorities
Society convinces us that we want many things that we don’t really want. Take time to get to know yourself. Make sure what you’re aiming for is something you really want, or you’ll have wasted your effort.

Allows you to spend your time more efficiently
When we do not know ourselves and our goals, instead of spending our time productively, we find ways to fill our days so that we do not have time to do anything. Focusing on what we want and our priorities helps us manage time.

Prevents you from being dependent on others
It should be emphasized that we are not talking about the need to socialize and interact with others, which are the necessities of being human. The point we should be careful about is that we should not make our happiness dependent on others. Sometimes, we need to stay focused on ourselves and stay away from distractions.

Leads you to a simpler life
A simple life is a beautiful life. In this day and age, we often find ourselves overwhelmed with things we want to do, should do, and avoid doing. The solution to all of these is actually taking time for ourselves.
